Guwahati, 29 December (HS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that the Srimanta Sankardeva Avirbhav Kshetra at Batadrava will not remain significant merely for the next 10–20 years, but will stand as a centre of faith and spirituality for generations to come. Inaugurating the redeveloped heritage complex, Shah said that the moment one enters the project premises, time appears to stand still and a deep sense of spirituality awakens in the mind.

Addressing a gathering at Batadrava, the Home Minister issued a strong message on illegal immigration, asserting that foreigners would be identified and deported one by one. From Batadrava, Shah reiterated the Centre’s firm resolve on the issue and underlined the government’s commitment to safeguarding Assam’s cultural and demographic identity.

Shah lauded Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for removing illegal Bangladeshi settlers from the Batadrava area and facilitating the establishment and preservation of the Namghar, calling it a significant step towards protecting the state’s spiritual heritage.

During the visit, the Union Home Minister formally inaugurated the Srimanta Sankardeva Avirbhav Kshetra at Batadrava. He also inaugurated the Jyoti–Bishnu Auditorium at Khanapara, Guwahati, described as the largest auditorium in North India, with a seating capacity of around 5,000.

Later in the day, Amit Shah inaugurated the newly constructed office of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate, marking another milestone in strengthening urban policing infrastructure in the state.

The Union Home Minister also visited the Martyrs’ Memorial at Boragaon in Guwahati, where he paid rich tributes to the 860 martyrs of the historic Assam Movement. Shah offered floral tributes and observed silence, paying homage to their supreme sacrifice and reaffirming the Centre’s respect for the aspirations that shaped modern Assam.---------
