New Delhi, 29 December (H.S.): Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to suspend its earlier order concerning the Aravalli Hills and the Aravalli Range, describing the judgment as a moral and political win for the Congress Party.

Speaking to reporters, Ramesh said the apex court’s latest directive had “set the record straight,” adding that “truth has finally prevailed.” He accused Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav of politicizing the issue by wrongly blaming him and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot earlier.

“The Supreme Court’s decision has made everything crystal clear today. Bhupender Yadav had alleged that I and Ashok Gehlot were indulging in politics over the Aravallis — but those claims have fallen flat,” Ramesh remarked.

He argued that preserving the Aravalli range is a matter of national interest, not regional politics.“The Aravalli Hills are vital not only for Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, but for the entire nation’s ecological stability,” he stated, adding, “The BJP has no intention of saving the Aravallis — it intends to sell them off. Bhupender Yadav must resign immediately.”

Emphasizing the environmental urgency, Ramesh said that reviving greenery in the Aravalli region is essential for sustaining life and protecting natural resources.

The Supreme Court, on November 20, had suspended its own previous order relating to the Aravalli range, stating that the matter needed further study and due consideration before any final decision. Environmentalists view this development as a reprieve for one of India’s most critical ecological zones, which plays a key role in maintaining Delhi-NCR’s and western India’s environmental balance.
