New Delhi, 25 December (H.S.): Marking the 101st birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Delhi Government launched its flagship “Atal Canteen” initiative across the national capital on Thursday. As part of the statewide rollout, Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa inaugurated one such canteen at Shyam Nagar, Rajouri Garden.
The newly opened canteen aims to provide clean, safe, and nutritious meals for just ₹5 to daily-wage workers and underprivileged citizens. The scheme, modeled on Vajpayee’s vision of inclusive progress, seeks to ensure that no person in Delhi goes to bed hungry.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Sirsa expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing that their leadership has made this people-centric food program a reality on the ground. He described the initiative as a living embodiment of Prime Minister Modi’s vision of social welfare through affordable nutrition.
Addressing local residents, Sirsa said every Atal Canteen reflects Atalji’s philosophy of serving the poor and marginalized first. He announced that each canteen will serve at least 1,000 people twice daily, providing hygienic and freshly prepared meals.
“Our mission is to ensure that no hardworking citizen in Delhi sleeps hungry. Every individual should have access to hygienic, wholesome food at an affordable cost,” Sirsa affirmed.
He further added that the Delhi Government remains firmly committed to welfare measures for the poor and weaker sections. Future initiatives will focus on clean drinking water, health access, and other essential services, reinforcing the state’s promise of inclusive development.
