Trinamool denies link to accused in Lagnajita Chakraborty molestation case

East Medinipur, 22 December (H.S.): The Trinamool Congress clarified its stance on Monday regarding the man arrested in connection with the alleged molestation of Bengali singer Lagnajita Chakraborty.

The party stated that the accused has no connection with the Trinamool Congress and that attempts are being made to give the incident a political color.

Bhagwanpur Block Trinamool President Robin Mandal held a press conference and said that the arrested person is not associated with the Trinamool Congress in any way. He alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party is deliberately politicizing the incident.

Robin Mandal said that false claims are being made with the intention of tarnishing the party's image.

This response from the Trinamool came after BJP leaders, including Shankudev Panda, claimed that the arrested school owner was associated with the Trinamool Congress. Robin Mandal completely refuted these allegations, stating that the accused is a businessman and the owner of a private school. He has no connection with the party organization at any level. He also said that a political party cannot be held responsible for an individual's private crime.

The police arrested Mehboob Malik, the owner of a private school, on Sunday on charges of molesting the Bengali singer. In this case, the acting Superintendent of Police of East Medinipur district, Mithun Kumar Dey, has also ordered a departmental inquiry against Bhagwanpur police station in-charge Shahanshah Haq. He said that the case is being investigated by an officer of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer level.

According to reports, popular singer Lagnajita Chakraborty had gone to perform at an event at South Point Public School in Bhagwanpur police station area on Saturday. She alleged that she was molested while performing on stage.

Lagnajita said that she sang the song 'Jago Maa' from the film Devi Chaudhurani. Shortly after, a man from the audience climbed onto the stage and tried to attack her. However, people present at the scene intervened and removed him from the stage. Following the incident, the singer refused to continue singing.

The singer alleged that after the event, the school owner, Mehboob Malik, misbehaved with her and verbally abused her. The police arrested the main accused within 24 hours of receiving the complaint.
