Gonda, 21 Dec (HS): An investigator claimed

on Sunday that a married couple was detained in connection with the suicide of

a 25-year-old engineer. According to Additional Superintendent of Police (East)

Manoj Kumar Rawat, Ajit Singh and his wife Sonal Singh were detained on

Saturday in connection with the suicide of Abhishek Srivastava, a resident of

Vishnupuri Colony under Kotwali Nagar Police Station boundaries. According to

Rawat, the duo has been charged with extorting money from Srivastava and aiding

in his suicide. According

to the police, Sonal Singh filed a complaint in September accusing her

neighbour, Abhishek, of intimidation and demanding money, which resulted in his

imprisonment.

Abhishek

was released on bond in October, after serving 12 days in prison. Following his

release, Ajit Singh and Sonal Singh reportedly continued to extort money from

him, prompting him to commit suicide on Wednesday, according to the ASP. According

to the officer, Abhishek's relatives accused the duo of blackmailing him and

framing him in a case. Following

their appearance in court, the pair was remanded into judicial custody.
