Burdwan, 21 December (H.S.): A political controversy erupted in Burdwan on Saturday afternoon over the arrival of a large number of old motorcycles with Bihar number plates. Allegedly around 55 old motorcycles, registered in Bihar, were sent from Rajendranagar in Bihar to the address of the BJP district party office in Burdwan. In protest against this incident, Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers and supporters staged a sit-in demonstration in front of the Eastern Railway parcel office at Burdwan railway station.

The Trinamool Congress claimed that after receiving information from party sources, their workers reached the parcel office and demanded that the motorcycles not be released until all the documents and complete information related to them were made public. The protesters questioned why such a large number of motorcycles were sent from Bihar to a single address in West Bengal.

TMC leaders expressed apprehension that while motorcycles are being brought in today, similar methods might be used in the future to bring criminals into the state. The Trinamool alleged that these motorcycles were booked in the name of a person named Sunil Gupta, whose address is given as the BJP district party office.

The Trinamool Congress also alleged that Burdwan BJP leader Khokan Sen was present at the parcel office and was arranging for the motorcycles to be released. The TMC claimed that some motorcycles had already been taken away before their arrival.

Khokan Das, the MLA from the Burdwan South assembly constituency, was also present at the protest. He said,

“We will not remain silent until it is clarified for what purpose these motorcycles are being brought from Bihar. Before the elections, the BJP is trying to create unrest in the state by bringing in criminals from outside using these bikes. These people will use these bikes for criminal activities and then leave.”

Tension prevails in the area following the incident, and the administration is keeping a close watch on the entire situation.
