Kolkata, 21 December (H.S.): Amidst the ongoing unstable situation in Bangladesh and the prevailing atmosphere regarding the SIR in West Bengal, the arrest of a Bangladeshi infiltrator from the Tinna Dakshinpara area under Pandua police station in Hooghly district on Saturday night has created a stir.

According to police sources, the arrested youth has been identified as Riyad Hasan. He is a resident of Barishal in Bangladesh. During interrogation, the accused claimed that he had illegally entered India about three years ago with the help of a tout and had lived in the Tollygunge area of Kolkata for some time. Recently, he had moved to the Tinna area under the Pandua police station in Hooghly district.

Local residents became suspicious of his activities and informed the police. Based on the information, Pandua police raided the area and arrested the accused. The investigation revealed that the accused did not have a valid passport or visa.

In this regard, Kalyan Sarkar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Hooghly Rural Police, said on Sunday that the arrested youth is a Bangladeshi citizen and was living illegally in India. A case of illegal infiltration has been registered against him. An investigation is also underway to determine the purpose of his visit to Pandua and whether any network is active behind him.

Currently, the police are conducting a thorough interrogation of the accused, and his contacts are also being investigated.
