New Delhi, 20 December (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a momentous two-day visit to Assam today, inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for transformative projects worth approximately Rs. 15,600 crore.

Detailed Itinerary

Prime Minister Modi will arrive in Guwahati around 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 20, for a ceremonial walkthrough and inauguration of the New Terminal Building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, followed by an address to the gathered dignitaries and public.

On Sunday, December 21, PM Modi will commence proceedings at 9:45 AM by paying solemn tribute to the martyrs at Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon, Guwahati, honouring the 860 heroes of the historic Assam Movement (1979-1985) who sacrificed their lives for a foreigner-free state.

Thereafter, the Prime Minister will proceed to Namrup in Dibrugarh district to perform the Bhoomi Pujan for the ambitious brownfield Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Project of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL), concluding with another public address.

Aviation Milestone

The newly unveiled terminal, spanning nearly 1.4 lakh square metres, represents India's pioneering nature-themed airport infrastructure, engineered to accommodate up to 1.3 crore passengers annually with enhancements to runways, aprons, and taxiways.

Inspired by the Bamboo Orchids motif, the edifice incorporates 140 metric tonnes of locally sourced Northeast bamboo, Kaziranga-inspired landscapes, japi motifs, iconic rhino emblems, and 57 Kopou flower columns, culminating in a Sky Forest of one lakh indigenous plants for an immersive arrival experience.

Advanced amenities include full-body scanners, DigiYatra contactless travel, automated baggage systems, fast-track immigration, and AI-driven operations, establishing global benchmarks in passenger convenience and security.

Fertilizer Project BoostThe Rs. 10,600 crore Namrup-IV Ammonia-Urea Complex, poised for 12.7 lakh metric tonnes annual production, will fortify fertilizer self-reliance for Assam and neighbouring states like West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh while generating substantial employment and spurring industrial revival.

This initiative aligns seamlessly with Prime Minister Modi's unwavering commitment to farmers' welfare, diminishing import dependence and catalysing Northeast India's agrarian economy.

Tribute to Assam's MartyrsAt Swahid Smarak Kshetra, inaugurated recently on 150 bighas at Rs. 170 crore, the Prime Minister will commemorate the unyielding spirit of the Assam Agitation martyrs, whose sacrifices safeguarded the state's cultural and demographic integrity.
