Srinagar, 15 December (H.S.): Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Leader of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference in the Upper House, Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, has written to Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, urging the inclusion of Anantnag Railway Station as a scheduled halt for the Vande Bharat Express.
In his letter dated December 12, 2025, Ramzan highlighted that Anantnag is a key administrative, commercial and tourism hub of South Kashmir and caters to a large population from surrounding districts. He said that while the introduction of Vande Bharat services in Jammu and Kashmir has significantly enhanced rail connectivity, the absence of a stoppage at Anantnag has caused inconvenience to many passengers who rely on the station for daily travel.
Describing Anantnag as the “Gateway to South Kashmir,” the MP pointed out its crucial role in tourism, horticulture and trade. He said that a halt at Anantnag would not only improve regional connectivity but also boost tourism and strengthen local economic activity.
Ramzan, who is also a member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Home Affairs, humbly requested the Railway Minister to consider the long-standing public demand and approve Anantnag Railway Station as a scheduled stop for the Vande Bharat Express.
He expressed hope that the request would receive favourable consideration in the larger public interest.
