Guwahati, 15 November (HS): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has registered a steady rise in freight unloading, achieving a 12.38% increase in October 2025. A total of 1,035 rakes were unloaded during the month, compared to 921 rakes handled in the same period last year.

According to the NFR Public Relations Officer, the zone ensured smooth transportation of a wide range of essential commodities, including FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertilizers, cement, coal, vegetables, automobiles, tankers and other crucial items. These consignments were efficiently unloaded at various goods sheds under its jurisdiction.

A significant portion of the freight movement caters to the requirements of the Northeast. In October, Assam alone accounted for 560 rakes, of which 269 contained essential goods. During the same period, Tripura handled 91 rakes, Nagaland 21, Arunachal Pradesh 9, Manipur 22, Meghalaya 1, and Mizoram 11. Additionally, West Bengal received 170 rakes, while Bihar handled 150 rakes, covering both essential and non-essential items.

The uninterrupted flow of essential commodities plays a critical role in meeting daily public needs and supporting economic activities across the region. Continuous monitoring and coordinated efforts have also helped reduce turnaround time and enhance overall unloading efficiency.
