Jammu, 2 January (H.S.): A significant initiative advocating for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir was launched today by MLA Thannamandi, Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, and MLA Surankote, Chowdhary Mohammad Akram.

The campaign commenced at Children Park, Rajouri, where locals gathered to lend their support.

The event began with a signature drive and culminated in a rally that proceeded to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri. A memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the restoration of statehood, was submitted by the MLAs.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Thannamandi Muzaffar Iqbal Khan said, “The restoration of statehood is not just a political demand but a collective aspiration of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This campaign is a platform for every citizen to express their support for this just cause. I urge everyone to participate wholeheartedly, as it will strengthen our voice at the national level.”

He emphasized that the restoration of Statehood is vital for ensuring development, autonomy and dignity for the people of J&K.

MLA Surankote Mohd Akram Choudhary while speaking on the occasion, remarked, “The abrogation of statehood has deeply impacted the socio-political and economic fabric of Jammu and Kashmir. It is time to rectify this and restore the dignity of our people. Through this signature campaign, we aim to send a clear message to the central government that the people of J&K are united in their demand for statehood.”

“We will continue this campaign in every region, ensuring that every citizen gets an opportunity to contribute to this movement. On January 20, we will initiate the campaign in Surankote, bringing more voices to this cause,” he added.

Both the leaders reiterated that the restoration of Statehood is critical for ensuring democratic Governance, economic growth, and preserving the unique identity of Jammu and Kashmir. They appealed to people from all walks of life to join the movement and make it a resounding success.
