New Delhi, January 14 (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the establishment of the National Turmeric Board, stating that it will provide better opportunities for innovation, global promotion, and value addition in turmeric production. The board will strengthen the supply chain, benefiting both farmers and consumers.
The board will be chaired by Palle Ganga Reddy and will include representatives from various ministries, exporters, and producer bodies. The board will focus on the welfare of turmeric farmers in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, and other 20 states.
The board will also increase the income of turmeric producers in the country. The board will include representatives from the Ministry of AYUSH, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and Department of Commerce. Representatives from Maharashtra and Telangana, the top turmeric producing states, and Meghalaya, known for Lakadong turmeric, will also join the board. The board will focus on the overall development and growth of the turmeric sector in India.
