- Impact on Bihu market due to beneficiary schemes

Jorhat (Assam), 13 January (HS): The entire state is immersed in the colors of the Bhogali Bihu festival. People everywhere are busy welcoming this festival. Meanwhile, a different atmosphere is being seen in Kakjan Duliagaon of Tiakti under Jorhat district. An enterprising woman Rupa Bora here started making traditional Pithas a few years ago by taking along some women of the village.

Today this small initiative has turned into a big enterprise. This time on the occasion of Bihu, about lakhs of Pithas have been prepared and sent to many places including Tiyok, Jorhat, Sivasagar. 10-15 women are engaged day and night in preparing various types of traditional dishes like Til Pitha, Ghila Pitha, Pati Chepta, Coconut Laddu.

It is noteworthy that the Pitha market has been adversely affected due to the uncontrollable rising prices of raw materials. Especially, due to the beneficiary schemes in the state, the trend of work and farming has declined, due to which the prices of local products have increased. Considering this situation as not a good sign for the community, Rupa Bora has expressed concern.

Therefore, she called upon everyone to become self-reliant and adopt the labor culture instead of depending on free schemes, so that every person can secure his livelihood.

It is known that in the present era, due to the rapid growth of urban culture, the tradition of traditional food and clothing is declining in the cities. However, people seem eager to celebrate their tradition. Understanding this time, Rupa Bora has made traditional dishes, especially various types of Pitha and Laddoo made in the rural environment on the occasion of Bihu, the garden of her livelihood. She has not only succeeded in making herself self-reliant, but has also filled the lives of other women with happiness by joining them with her. Rupa Bora has emerged as a role model for other rural women.
