Mumbai,
14 Jan (HS):- Private passenger transport operators like Ola, Uber, Rapido will
be covered under a uniform rule, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik
said.
He also directed the authorities concerned to plan a system to bring
transparency in car pulling, licensing, and traffic-related issues.
Sarnaik
was addressing a meeting of private transporters on Tuesday. Additional
Secretary of Transport Department Sanjay Sethi; Transport Commissioner Vivek
Bhimanwar, Vice-president and Managing Director of MSRTC DrMadhav Kusekar nd
representatives of transport companies attended the meeting virtually.
The uniformity
in rules is necessary and in consonance with the changes made by the Centre in
the transport policy. Women will also be encouraged to operate bike taxis.
Besides the safety of passengers at the top of the priority list, generating
employment is also envisaged in the policy, Sarnaik said.
Bhimanwar
made a presentation on the proposed changes in the policy.
The
government also plans to establish a 25-bed hospital in every district for the
state transport employees, and a 100-bed hospital in Mumbai’s Borivali area.
The State Trnsport employees will be covered under the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya
Scheme for medical procedures up to ₹5 lakh.
