New Delhi, 30 December (H.S.): The Congress slammed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments over the incidents of death of a Dalit youth in police custody in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh and tribal women being tied to trees and beaten in Balasore, Odisha.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said in a statement here on Monday that on one hand a Dalit youth was killed in police custody in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh. On the other hand, tribal women were tied to trees and beaten in Balasore, Odisha. Both these incidents are sad, shameful and highly condemnable. Due to the Manuvadi thinking of the BJP, such incidents are happening one after the other in the states ruled by them. This is not possible without the support of the government.

Rahul Gandhi said that such barbarity with the Bahujans of the country will not be tolerated at any cost. We are with them, we will fight with full force for their constitutional rights and to get them justice.

Congress General Secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleged that insulting Babasaheb Ambedkar and atrocities on weaker sections are the basic mantra of BJP's rule. The case of the death of a Dalit youth in police custody in Dewas is very serious. The family alleges that the youth lost his life due to police brutality. Earlier, there was news of atrocities on Dalit families and the death of a Dalit youth in police custody from Parbhani in Maharashtra. It seems that in BJP rule, the police have got a free hand to commit atrocities on Dalits, tribals and deprived and weaker sections.

Apart from this, Priyanka has also condemned the incident of lathi charge on students in Bihar. She said that for the second time in three days, students were tortured in Bihar. It is the government's job to stop corruption, rigging, paper leak in examinations, but instead of stopping corruption, students are being prevented from raising their voice. Water cannon and lathi charge on youth in this severe cold is inhuman. BJP's double engine has become a symbol of double atrocities on the youth.

On December 26, a woman in Dewas had lodged a complaint against a youth named Mukesh Longre in Satwas police station. The station in-charge Ashish Rajput was investigating it. Mukesh was called to the police station on Saturday evening to record his statement. During that time, Mukesh got a chance and hanged himself with a towel. Police took him to the hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead.

On the other hand, a video of Balasore in Odisha went viral on social media, in which three people were tied to a tree and beaten and were made to raise certain slogans. However, cross FIRs have been filed from both sides in this case and the police is taking further action.
