New Delhi, 26 December (HS): On the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, all political figures including the President, Vice President and Prime Minister have paid tribute to him.

President Draupadi Murmu wrote on the social networking site X, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh ji was one of those rare politicians who worked with equal ease in both the field of education and administration. In his various roles in public offices, he made significant contributions to improving the Indian economy. He will always be remembered for his service to the nation, his impeccable political life and his utmost humility. His departure is a great loss for all of us. I pay my tribute to one of the greatest sons of India and express my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and fans.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said that it was very sad to know about the demise of former Prime Minister and eminent economist Dr. Manmohan Singh ji who changed the economic scenario of India. A recipient of the Padma Vibhushan and the architect of India's economic liberalisation in 1991, he courageously led our country through a momentous transformation, opening up new avenues for growth and prosperity.

He further said that as the Vice President of India, I had the privilege of having meaningful, insightful conversations with Dr Singh at his residence. His profound understanding of the economy, gentle demeanour and his unwavering commitment to India's progress will always be etched in my memories. With the demise of Dr Singh, India has lost a great intellectual and an outstanding statesman. His legacy will always guide India's path of development. My heartfelt condolences to his family and countless fans in this difficult time.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tribute to former PM Manmohan Singh on his demise and recalled the moments spent with him in politics. PM Modi said, when he was the Prime Minister and I was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, we used to talk regularly. We used to have in-depth discussions on various topics related to the government. His wisdom and humility were always visible. My condolences to his family in this hour of grief.

Paying tribute to Manmohan Singh, PM Modi said, the country has lost one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh ji, leaving the country in mourning. Kharge further wrote I mourn the loss of a lifelong senior colleague, a gentle intellectual and a humble soul who embodied the aspirations of India, rising up the ranks with unwavering dedication. I am proud to have been a part of his Cabinet as Labor Minister, Railway Minister and Social Welfare Minister. A man of work rather than words, his immense contribution to nation building will always be etched in the pages of Indian history.

Kharge said that in this hour of grief, I express my deep and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and countless fans. May they get the strength to overcome this huge loss. His legacy of advancing India's policies of development, welfare and inclusiveness will always be cherished. May his soul rest in peace.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah expressed grief and said that the politician with unique talent left an indelible mark on the country with his leadership. It was during his tenure as Prime Minister that I became the Chief Minister of Karnataka for the first time. My condolences to his family and loved ones.
