New Delhi, 27 December (HS): There has been a rush of people to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at Bungalow Number-3 on Motilal Nehru Marg in Lutyens Delhi since this morning. Meanwhile, his body was wrapped in the national flag i.e. tricolor with military honors.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, MP from Wayanad, Kerala, reached his official residence 3, Motilal Nehru Marg to pay tribute to the late leader. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and Bharatiya Janata Party National President and Union Health Minister JP Nadda reached to pay last respects to former Prime Minister Singh and paid tribute.
Singh died last night at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The body has been kept for last darshan at his official residence 3, Motilal Nehru Marg. Police have made tight security arrangements outside 3 Motilal Nehru Marg. The central government has declared seven days of state mourning in the country.
Singh is survived by his wife Gursharan Kaur and three daughters Upinder Singh, Daman Singh and Amrit Singh. Upinder is a historian, Daman a writer and Amrit a human rights lawyer. Amrit is in the US. She is expected to reach New Delhi from the US tonight. Singh's last rites will be performed in New Delhi tomorrow.
