New Delhi, 27 December (HS): Leaders of many countries of the world have expressed deep condolences on the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Leaders of neighboring countries including America, Canada, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives, Afghanistan remembered Singh.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed deep condolences to the people of India on the demise of Singh and said that the former Prime Minister's leadership in advancing the US-India civil nuclear cooperation agreement symbolizes a major investment in the potential of US-India relations. He said that Dr. Singh will be remembered in India for his economic reforms.
Former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said in a condolence message that he was a man of extraordinary intelligence, honesty and knowledge. Former Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda expressed grief over the demise of Singh and expressed deep condolences to his family and the people of India.
Former Maldives President Mohammed Nasheed said that he was saddened by the news of Singh's death. He was a good friend of the Maldives and a father figure to him. Former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa described Dr Singh as a visionary economist and architect of India's economic liberalisation. Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai said India has lost one of its most illustrious sons. Dr Singh has been an unwavering ally and friend of Afghanistan.
