South 24 Parganas, 26 December (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will visit Sandeshkhali in South 24 Parganas next Monday in connection with a government programme. Addressing a press conference from the Nabanna assembly hall on Thursday, the Chief Minister said that she will visit Sandeshkhali on December 30. That day at 1 pm, Mamata will attend a government programme. Clothes will be distributed to the needy. She will also inaugurate various development projects. As a result, about 20,000 residents of Sandeshkhali will benefit.
The Chief Minister has a series of programmes for the next few days. She said that the Bengal Business Global Summit (BGBS) will be held on January 5 and 6. On the last day of BGBS, i.e. January 6, Mamata will inspect the preparations for the Gangasagar Mela. She will also visit Bharat Sevashram and Kapil Muni's Ashram on that day. The Chief Minister will inaugurate the e-vessel from Millennium Park on January 8. She said that this vessel will be able to travel from Howrah to Dakshineswar and Belur Math by water. She also said that a shopping mall will be built in each district headquarters.
Notably, Sandeshkhali was a hotbed of controversy earlier this year. Trinamool leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his brother were accused of assaulting Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials during a search operation in the ration scam. Shahjahan and his followers were also accused of torturing women and forcibly grabbing land. This did not have any impact on Trinamool's vote bank in the Lok Sabha elections. Trinamool candidate Haji Nurul Islam won by a margin of more than five lakh votes. BJP candidate Rekha Patra lost. Mamata is going to visit Sandeshkhali six months after the Lok Sabha elections results.
