New Delhi, 26 December (H.S.): Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was a highly respected and influential figure in Indian politics. He passed away at the age of 92 on December 26, after being admitted to AIIMS in Delhi for treatment of age-related medical conditions.
The official statement released by AIIMS stated that Singh had a sudden loss of consciousness at his home on Thursday and despite all resuscitative efforts, he could not be revived.
Singh had a long and illustrious career, serving as the Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance in 1972 and later as the Reserve Bank of India governor from 1982-1985. He entered the Rajya Sabha in 1991 and went on to become the Union Finance Minister in the PV Narasimha Rao-led government. He retired from the Rajya Sabha in April 2024 after serving for 33 years.
Born on September 26, 1932, in a village in undivided India, Dr. Manmohan Singh was known for his economic policies and was considered the architect of India's economic liberalization in the early 1990s.
His passing is a great loss to the nation and he will be remembered for his immense contribution to the country's growth and development.
