Gopeshwar, 26 December (HS): A meeting of the District Ganga Conservation Committee was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Chamoli Sandeep Tiwari. In the meeting, the works related to the conservation and revival of the Ganga river and its major tributaries were reviewed. During this, the DM expressed displeasure over not handing over two of the three STPs built in Karnaprayag under the Namami Gange project to the Jal Sansthan and gave strict instructions to the implementing agency to hand them over by January 1.

The DM directed that all the STPs operating in the district should be inspected every month. He emphasized on using the sludge left after sewage treatment to make fertilizer and making it available to farmers through the Forest Department or NGO. Also, ordered the Jal Sansthan to prepare an estimate for the construction of sewer network and STP in Haldwapani area. Strict instructions given to municipal bodiesDM gave instructions to strictly monitor door-to-door garbage collection and source segregation in municipal bodies. He said that all the executive officers should visit the city area at seven in the morning and monitor the cleaning work. The District Magistrate instructed to prepare a special action plan for cleaning the drains in Ganga bodies and to prevent their water from going directly into the rivers. He also asked to connect all the hotels on the river bank to the sewer network and ensure proper disposal of bio-medical waste. Details of work progress Member Secretary and DFO Sarvesh Kumar Dubey said that out of the 16 STPs approved in the district, 13 have been handed over to the Jal Sansthan. 28 drains have been connected to these STPs, which include drains of Badrinath, Joshimath, Gopeshwar, Nandprayag and Karnaprayag. The work of source segregation, door-to-door garbage collection and making compost from garbage is in progress in the municipal bodies. DFO Sarvesh Dubey, CDO Nandan Kumar, CMO Dr. Abhishek Gupta, PD Anand Singh, Executive Engineer of Water Institute SK Srivastava, EO Gopeshwar Manvendra Singh and other officers joined the meeting through virtual medium.
