Kolkata, 20 December (H.S.): After suspension from the party on charges of extorting money from city businessmen in the name of top Trinamool Congress leaders, Trinamool Congress Yuva Morcha secretary Tarun Tiwari was arrested by the police of Posta police station on Friday. The police have also arrested two other people along with Tiwari. A case has been registered against them under several sections of BNS including extortion.
Notably, a few days ago, Tarun Tiwari was accused of demanding extortion. Businessman Sachin Patil had alleged that Tarun had demanded six lakh rupees from him promising to settle a matter related to business. He gave two and a half lakh rupees to Tarun. Tarun had allegedly threatened Sachin by the name of a big Trinamool leader. After that, the businessman lodged a written complaint at Posta police station.
However, Tarun Tiwari claimed that he was being framed.
Notably, the Trinamool Congress was upset with the allegations against Tarun Tiwari. Overall, his suspension from the post is being considered as a strong message from the party. Trinamool leader Mani Shankar Mandal has been expelled from the Trinamool Education Cell.
