East Medinipur, December 11 (HS):
The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) raided Egra in East Medinipur and recovered crores of rupees. On Wednesday, a raid was conducted at the house of a former municipal engineer and ₹7 crore in cash was recovered.
During this, gold was also recovered from his house. Along with Egra, the engineer's house in Kolkata was also searched. It is reported that this money has been recovered.
Apart from searching the house of Assistant Engineer Chandan Das in Kasba-Egra area of the municipality, the Anti-Corruption Branch also raided Egra Bank. Chandan's flat in Kolkata was also searched.
The engineer was accused of financial corruption while working in Egra Municipality due to which he was transferred from Egra to Dhupguri Municipality. He is due to retire in February. He is currently on leave.
