Bhunaneswar, 8 October (H.S.): Jitendra Kumar Padhy, the Executive Engineer of the Tel Irrigation Division in Subarnapur, has been remanded to jail custody until October 21, 2024, after being arrested for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 46,000 from a contractor.
During simultaneous searches at six locations associated with Padhy, vigilance officials discovered substantial assets, including Rs. 4.08 lakhs in cash, a triple-storeyed building in Bhubaneswar (3,300 sq. ft.), a flat in Puri, two high-value plots in Puri and Bolangir, and 18.67 acres of farmland in Cuttack.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the value of the farmland and the under-construction building. Authorities are also verifying Padhy’s bank and other financial deposits.
A case has been registered in connection with these findings at the Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. He was subsequently produced in court following his arrest.
