Cyclone Dana Update: IMD confirms landfall between Bhitarkanika & Dhamra

Bhubaneswar, 23 October (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that Cyclone Dana, currently intensifying in the Bay of Bengal, is expected to make landfall between the Bhitarkanika and Dhamra regions late on October 24 or early October 25.

IMD scientist Umasankar Das provided the update, stating that the cyclone is likely to strike with wind speeds ranging from 100-110 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 120 kmph.

Das noted that the impact of the cyclone will bring heavy rainfall to the northern districts of Odisha on October 24 and 25, with a gradual reduction in rainfall activity from October 26. Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Balasore districts are anticipated to be the worst hit by the landfall.

In light of the deteriorating weather conditions, fishermen have been advised to return to shore, and wind speeds along the coast are expected to intensify starting on Wednesday.
