Samaguri by-election: clash between Congress-BJP supporters

Nagaon (Assam), 15 October (HS): Clashes between workers of political parties started even before the dates for by-elections on five assembly seats of the state were announced. On Tuesday, election-centric violence took place in Rupahihat.

According to the information, Congress workers had taken out a bike rally in the morning in view of the upcoming by-election in Samaguri assembly constituency. Congress supporters took out the bike rally from Singimari. A section of BJP workers allegedly stopped some people of Rupahihat assembly constituency from going to Singimari by bike to attend the rally. This led to a fierce scuffle between the two sides.

People allegedly targeted several vehicles plying on this route. Rupahihat police and paramilitary forces reached the spot and controlled the situation. Later, Congress has alleged that the BJP attacked in a planned manner.

Meanwhile, BJP workers alleged that the tense situation arose due to Congress workers tearing BJP posters. Many people are reported to be injured in this clash between Congress and BJP.
