Kamrup (Assam), 11 July (HS): An important meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was held in the auditorium of the District Commissioner's Office on Friday under the chairmanship of Kamrup Metro District Commissioner Sumit Sattavan.
Additional District Commissioner Ajit Kumar Sharma, Special Officer of Transport Department and Transport Officer in-charge of the district Gautam Das, Member Secretary of the Committee Abhijit Chaudhary, District Transport Officer Rajiv Kumar Pegu along with concerned officials of various departments like Health, Public Works, Police etc. were present in the meeting.
In the meeting, emphasis was laid on removing the falling walls of the old jail complex located at Fancy Bazar as soon as possible so that the safety of pedestrians can be ensured. Apart from this, declaring 'No Parking, No Vending Zone' around the GMCH complex, removing unauthorized signboards on dividers and installing temporary barricades at road crossing places by NHAI and police were also discussed.
In the meeting, measures to reduce the number of road accidents, injured and dead this year as compared to last year were also discussed. The District Commissioner appealed to all the departments related to road safety to seriously perform their duties and prevent road accidents and reduce the death rate.
