Kolkata, 23 August(HS): Preliminary investigation by the Kolkata Police revealed that the first-year student of Jadavpur University was paraded naked in the corridor of the second floor of the main hostel. A few minutes later, he fell from there and died. A senior police officer said on Wednesday that investigators have also found that the teenage student, Swapnadeep Kundu, was ''sexually assaulted''.
The 13 accused arrested in this case, including current and former students of Jadavpur University, had played an active role in the entire episode of the student's death. Only one of the accused seem to be innocent. A senior Kolkata Police officer said, “The juvenile was definitely ragged and sexually assaulted. He was paraded naked in the corridor after being forced to undress in room number 70. We have proof. The 12 people arrested have played some role in the entire episode.''
The police officer said, Kolkata Police investigators have found a WhatsApp group created by one of the arrested accused. ''This WhatsApp group was created to mislead the police,'' he added. ''Probe also revealed that the arrested accused had hatched a plan to mislead the police to hide the ragging episode,'' he said.
A local court on Tuesday accepted his prayer to add section 4 of the WB Prohibition of Ragging in Educational Institutions Act 2000.
The police officer said that to get more details about the August 9 incident, the police on Tuesday questioned the cook of the hostel. Two other students of the university have been called to appear before the investigators for questioning in connection with their investigation. On the night of August 9, a student had died after allegedly falling from the second floor balcony of the boys main hostel in the university campus. His family alleged that he was a victim of ragging and sexual assault.
