New Delhi, 10 Dec (HS): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the Dalit Samman Samaroh near Rajghat, Mahatma Gandhi's monument, as a display of solidarity and acknowledgment for the Dalit community in India. This event was created to recognise the Dalit community's efforts and to boost their morale.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Sunday that Mahatma Gandhi's impact is seen in all of the work done by the BJP-led Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
On Sunday, the Defence Minister declared at the 'Dalit Samman Samaroh' in the national capital, Gandhiji is in the hearts and minds of all countrymen.
Everyone in the country and throughout the world is aware of Bapu's ideals, principles, and lifetime pursuit of the truth. On October 2, 154 years ago, he entered this world. To me, October 2 represents the birth of a person as well as a chapter in our history. It ushers in a new era.
The work we have done under Prime Minister Modi's leadership has been influenced by Mahatma Gandhi's thoughts and ideas. Though our banks were nationalised long before we came to office, it wasn't until Modi-ji became Prime Minister that a member of every family, from all walks of life, was able to create their own bank account (Jan Dhan). To date, accounts worth more than Rs 50 crore have been opened, Singh added.
On Sunday, the Raksha Mantri also unveiled a monument of Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial, Rajghat, and stated that the first action that PM Modi took after taking over the reins of the country was the 'Swachhta Abhiyaan' (cleanliness campaign).
“Gandhi-ji has no intention of starting a war or annexing any country or territory. He won many hearts throughout the world just by walking the road of nonviolence. Even those who had never met him were inspired by his ideas and ideals. Today, I am reminded of Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela. They never saw Gandhi-ji during his lifetime, but they held his beliefs dear and followed his nonviolent way. They helped mankind and encouraged individuals by following Bapu's teachings. Bapu dreamed not only of an India free of oppression, but also of an India after freedom, he continued.
On the Champaran Movement of 1917, Singh stated that Mahatma's motivation for Satyagrah was to call British attention to the deteriorating situation of India's farmers under their control.
The Presence of the Defence Minister: A Symbolic Act - Rajnath Singh's attendance at the event demonstrates the government's commitment to the empowerment of Dalits, a historically underprivileged population in Indian culture. The event's setting, Rajghat, offered a major backdrop, symbolizing Gandhi's ideas of equality and social justice - values that the event wanted to promote.
The Government Recognizes Dalit Contributions: The involvement of the Defence Minister in the event sends a strong statement about the government's recognition of the Dalit community's contributions to society and dedication to their upliftment. This substantial gesture contributes to the government's narrative of social change and inclusion.
Media Coverage and Social Media Outreach: A video of the event was extensively shared on social media platforms, extending its message and influence even farther. The breadth of this coverage reflects the significance of this event in the public eye and the attention it has received.
