Lucknow, August 04 (HS): The Uttar Pradesh

Legislative Assembly was momentarily adjourned today, August 4, 2026, till

12:20 PM due to massive disturbances and protests by opposition MLAs.

The reason for today's adjournment: The second

day of the Monsoon Session saw extensive disturbance and slogan yelling by the

opposition. This uproar erupted just before Parliamentary Affairs and Finance

Minister Suresh Khanna was supposed to present the state's first supplementary

budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.

On

Tuesday, the second day of the UP Assembly monsoon session, as soon as the

House began proceedings at 11 a.m., Samajwadi Party MLAs stormed the well and

began creating a ruckus over the issue of theft of donations at the Ram Temple.

After the uproar, which lasted for about 10 minutes, the Assembly proceedings

were adjourned until 12:20 p.m. The SP MLAs are sitting on a sit-in protest in

the well.

As soon as the House began, Leader of the Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey

demanded a discussion on the Ram Temple offering theft case under Rule 311.

Speaker Satish Mahana responded by stating that this was not an urgent issue

that warranted a discussion at the expense of other House proceedings.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Khanna, representing the government, stated that

he witnessed their faith in 1990. They opened fire on Ram devotees. They made

every effort to obstruct the construction of the Ram Temple. Addressing the

bench, Khanna stated that the matter is before the Supreme Court, and

therefore, the issue cannot be discussed in the House. Those who never believed

in Ram are now expressing their faith in the Ram Temple.

Assembly Speaker Mahana said it was good that Zahid Beg, Omar Ali, and Shahid

Manzoor were also concerned about the Ram Temple. Hurting religious sentiments

was not appropriate. From the bench, the Speaker tried to reason with the

opposition party members, but the protests continued. At around 11:10 a.m., the

Speaker adjourned the House until 12:20 p.m. Earlier, SP members staged a

protest in front of the statue of Chaudhary Charan Singh located in the Vidhan

Bhawan.

On the first day, the

House adjourned after paying respect to sitting Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Alam

Badi and other dead former members. Opposition members organized fierce

demonstrations before to adjournment. SP MPs come with coin-filled contribution

boxes and banners to protest alleged discrepancies in NEET exam papers and Ram

Temple donations.
