Kolkata, 04 August (H.S.) : Police in West Bengal's West Midnapore district intercepted a pickup van in Daspur after finding its movement suspicious and rescued nine cattle allegedly being transported for smuggling. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, when officers signalled the vehicle to stop. The driver allegedly attempted to flee but was chased down and apprehended by the police.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found the cattle concealed behind baskets of vegetables. Investigators suspect that the animals were being transported for illegal smuggling.

A senior officer of Daspur Police Station said the pickup van has been seized and all nine cattle have been rescued. The arrested accused is being questioned, and further investigation is underway to determine the intended destination of the vehicle and whether others were involved in the alleged smuggling network.
