Bhubaneswar, 04 August (H.S.): The Odisha Police has ordered an immediate halt to the unauthorised use of electricity from office buildings for residential quarters, barracks, and personal purposes across the state.

In a communication issued on August 1, 2026, the State Police Headquarters noted instances where office power supply was being extended to nearby residential areas, terming such practices illegal and a violation of existing rules.

The directive, sent to all police districts, ranges, establishments, and battalions (excluding Vigilance, Home Guards, and Fire Services), also flagged the misuse of office electricity for charging personal electric vehicles (EVs), which has increased power consumption and added financial burden on the state.

Authorities further warned against the use of electric heaters for cooking in barracks, citing fire hazards and excessive energy use.

All unit heads have been instructed to inspect premises, disconnect unauthorised links, and ensure strict compliance, while also sensitising personnel about the directive.
