15,730 Sq. Ft. of Office Space Freed Up during last six months

We have to make NCR paperless and greener: GM N.P.Singh

Prayagraj, August 04 (HS): Realizing the vision of 'Digital India' and 'Green Railways,' North

Central Railway has successfully completed its comprehensive digitization drive

within just six months. Under this landmark initiative, over 2.05 crore records

across North Central Railway were digitized. Additionally, by weeding out 2.21

crore pages and 4.6 metric tonnes of old records, more than 15,730 square feet of

office space was vacated; this space will now be utilized for employee

amenities, meeting halls, and other important administrative functions.

Additionally, a secure digital storage capacity of over 58 TB has also been

created through this entire process.

The drive was closely monitored by GM NCR Naresh Pal Singh. Deputy

General Manager Atul Mishra coordinated the drive across the three divisions of

NCR.

Excellent Performance by Divisions and Workshops: All the units of North

Central Railway contributed significantly to the campaign.

Prayagraj Division: Prayagraj Division digitized 91.44 lakh records,

weeded out 23.94 lakh pages, freed up 3,609 square feet of space and one room,

and established 40.21 TB of storage.

Jhansi division - 1- In Jhansi Division, 44.46 lakh records were

digitized, 1.87 crore pages were weeded out, and 10,621 square feet of space

along with nine rooms/halls were vacated.

Jhansi Workshop digitized 28.89 lakh records and freed up 1,000 square

feet of space, while the CMLR Workshop digitized 6 lakh records and freed up

500 square feet of space.

Agra Division: Agra Division digitized 33.76 lakh records, weeded out 4.6

metric tonnes of records, and freed up four rooms.

Significant reduction in paper consumption: The drive has led to a 39%

drop in paper consumption due to the full implementation of e-office and e-file

systems. While the average monthly paper consumption was 4,191 reams in the

2025-26 fiscal year, it has decreased to 2,548 reams in the current fiscal

year. This 39% reduction translates to an estimated annual saving of 19,700

reams of paper, thereby preventing the felling of approximately 200 trees each

year.

This achievement marks a major step towards establishing North Central

Railway as a Greener Railway: This is a historic move towards transparency and

operational efficiency. Digitization has brought transparency, speed, and

efficiency to railway operations. The goal of making North Central Railway 100%

paperless has largely been achieved; in the upcoming phases, old records stored

at smaller stations will also be digitized and weeded out, freeing up space for

other important operational activities.
