Jalpaiguri, 04 August (H.S.): Tension prevailed at Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital after a man died during treatment, with his family alleging that medical negligence led to his death. The deceased has been identified as Bhogel Das, a resident of Jorpakri in Maynaguri.
According to family members, Bhogel Das was stung by wasps at multiple places on his body near his house on Monday evening. As his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital later that evening.
The deceased's son, Chiranjit Das, claimed that his father was in a stable condition when he was admitted and was able to speak normally. He further alleged that on Tuesday morning, Bhogel Das had even walked to the bathroom on his own.
The family alleged that a doctor later administered an injection, following which his condition deteriorated rapidly. They claimed that he died shortly afterwards due to incorrect treatment.
Following the death, the victim's relatives staged a protest at the hospital, alleging medical negligence.
The deceased's nephew, Manas Das, who works as the driver of the Jalpaiguri Member of Parliament, said the matter had been brought to the MP's notice. He added that a written complaint would be submitted to the Medical College Superintendent and that the family also plans to lodge a complaint with the local police.
Hospital authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the allegations. An investigation is expected into the family's complaint.
