Hooghly, 04 August (H.S.): Speculation over the formation of a new Arambagh district has intensified, with officials inspecting possible locations for setting up administrative infrastructure in Pursura on Tuesday.

During the first administrative meeting after the change of government in the state, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had announced the proposal to develop Arambagh as a new district. Since then, discussions have been ongoing regarding the proposed boundaries and administrative structure of the district.

According to preliminary information, the proposed Arambagh district may include Goghat-I, Goghat-II, Arambagh, Khanakul-I, Khanakul-II, Pursura and Tarakeswar areas. There is also a possibility of creating two subdivisions under the proposed district — Arambagh subdivision and Pursura subdivision.

As per the initial proposal, Arambagh subdivision may include Goghat-I and Goghat-II blocks, Kamarpukur Municipality and Arambagh block. On the other hand, Pursura subdivision may comprise Khanakul-I, Khanakul-II, Pursura and Tarakeswar blocks along with the respective municipalities.

If Pursura subdivision is created, several important administrative offices will be required there, including the subdivision office, subdivision court, SDPO office, SDLRO office and other government departments. Identifying suitable locations for these facilities has therefore become a key part of the preparation process.

With this objective, a team comprising the Arambagh Sub-Divisional Officer, Pursura MLA Biman Ghosh, Pursura BDO and BLRO visited several possible sites on Tuesday. The team inspected the Pursura BDO office premises, agricultural farm area, Vidyasagar Bhavan near Vidyasagar Maidan and the area adjacent to the crematorium to assess their suitability for setting up administrative infrastructure.

After the inspection, Pursura MLA Biman Ghosh said that if Pursura subdivision is formed as per the proposed plan, several administrative offices would be needed. He added that the visit was conducted as part of the preliminary preparation to identify suitable locations. However, the final decision regarding the administrative structure will depend on official approval and further directives from the government.

If the proposed Arambagh district becomes a reality, it could bring significant changes to the administrative system of Goghat, Arambagh, Khanakul, Pursura and Tarakeswar areas.
