
Bhubaneswar, 14 August (H.S.) : In a significant anti-corruption development, the Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of Tarini Charan Das, former Section Officer of the Allotment Section of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), in a bribery case.
Das, who has since retired from service, was convicted on Friday, August 14, 2026, by the Additional Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.
According to Odisha Vigilance, Das was charge-sheeted under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 from an applicant in connection with the transfer of ownership of a house.
After considering the evidence in the case, the court convicted Das and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment, besides imposing a fine.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance said it will move the competent authority seeking stoppage of the pension of the retired former BDA Section Officer in accordance with the applicable rules.
