Leh, 14 August (H.S.): In a proud and historic initiative symbolizing patriotism, unity and national pride, the Indian Army installed a 100 Feet High National Flag at Padum in Zanskar District, Union Territory of Ladakh. Standing tall amidst the magnificent Zanskar Landscape, the towering Tricolor represents the spirit of the Nation and reflects the unwavering commitment of the Indian Army towards the people living in remote regions of the country.

The installation of the National Flag has been undertaken with the aim of fostering a deeper sense of national integration, civic pride and patriotic spirit among the people of Zanskar Valley. The initiative also seeks to inspire the younger generation by reinforcing the values of unity, sacrifice and dedication towards the Nation. Visible from a considerable distance across the valley, the National Flag is expected to become a prominent landmark and symbol of pride for both the residents and visitors.

The project was executed through the joint efforts of the Indian Army and the Civil Administration of Zanskar District. In addition to the installation of the National Flag, renovation and beautification works were also carried out in the surrounding area to enhance the overall appearance and public environment of the site. The initiative reflects a shared vision towards development, public welfare and national building in one of India’s most remote and strategically significant regions.

Padum, the headquarters of Zanskar District, occupies a place of immense historical cultural and geographical importance in Ladakh. Known for its ancient Buddhist heritage, monasteries, unique Zanskar culture and mesmerizing natural beauty, the region symbolizes resilience, harmony and the indomitable spirit of its people. Situated at an altitude of 3670 metres, Padum serves as the gateway to the remote villages and spectacular landscapes of Zanskar Valley.

The Indian Army reaffirmed its commitment towards the welfare and development of border areas and highlighted the importance of strong civil-military cooperation in promoting progress and national integration. It also expressed gratitude to the Civil Administration and the people of Zanskar for their wholehearted support and cooperation in successfully accomplishing the initiative.

The initiative stands as a reflection of the enduring bond of trust and mutual respect shared between the Indian Army and the people of Ladakh.
