New Delhi, 01 August (H.S.): Indian Railways has approved the extension of the Northern Railway's daily Ludhiana–Jakhal Passenger train (Train Nos. 54053/54054) up to Jind to strengthen regional rail connectivity. The decision will provide direct rail services to daily commuters, students, working professionals, traders, and other passengers travelling between Punjab and Haryana.

According to the Ministry of Railways, Train No. 54054 will now operate directly from Ludhiana to Jind, while Train No. 54053 will run from Jind to Ludhiana. Previously, the train operated only between Ludhiana and Jakhal.

With the extension, the train's route length will increase from 128 kilometres to 200 kilometres. The train will also have commercial halts at all stations between Jakhal and Jind, providing improved rail connectivity to passengers from towns and villages along the route.

The Ministry of Railways said the extension will eliminate the need for passengers travelling to Jind to change trains at Jakhal. It will improve access to employment opportunities, educational institutions, healthcare services, and commercial centres, while further strengthening rail connectivity between the urban and rural regions of Punjab and Haryana.

According to the Ministry, the decision has been taken in response to passenger demand. It aims to enhance regional rail connectivity and provide travellers with a more convenient, seamless, and efficient journey.
