New Delhi, 01 August (H.S.): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Sanitation Inspector of the Ayodhya Cantonment Board on charges of accepting a bribe.

According to the CBI, the complainant had approached the accused on July 28 with a request to appoint some acquaintances on a contractual basis for housekeeping work. The accused allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 20,000 per employee and instructed the complainant to submit the documents of at least 20 candidates by July 30. He also allegedly threatened that the appointments would not be made if the bribe was not paid.

The CBI laid a trap on July 30 and caught the accused red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 60,000. The amount was being paid for the appointment of five employees at the mutually agreed rate of Rs. 12,000 per employee.

The accused was arrested the same day and produced before the competent court in Lucknow on July 31. The court remanded him to judicial custody until August 13. Further investigation into the case is underway.
