New Delhi, 06 July (H.S.): The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea on Monday, July 7, regarding allegations of attempts to influence witnesses in the investigation into the Karur stampede that occurred during a 2025 rally of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay.

On Monday, senior advocate Huzefa Ahmadi mentioned the matter before the vacation bench headed by Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, seeking an urgent hearing. Accepting the request, the Court scheduled the matter for hearing on July 7.

The petition, filed by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader R.S. Bharathi, states that the Supreme Court had, on October 13, 2025, ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Karur stampede. The plea alleges that some of the accused in the case, who are currently serving as ministers in the state government, are attempting to influence witnesses connected to the investigation.

The stampede occurred on September 27, 2025, during Vijay's public rally in Karur. Subsequently, on October 13, 2025, the Supreme Court directed that the CBI investigation be monitored by a three-member committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Ajay Rastogi.

The monitoring committee also includes two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from the Tamil Nadu cadre who are not natives of the state. The tragic stampede claimed the lives of 41 people and left several others injured.
