Kolkata, 06 July (H.S.): Jadavpur Member of Parliament Sayoni Ghosh has expressed deep anguish and outrage over the alleged rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Baruipur, assuring the bereaved family of her full support while appreciating the West Bengal government's prompt response to the incident.

In a post on social media, Ghosh said she was shocked and devastated by the brutal crime. Extending her condolences to the victim's family, she said no words could ease their grief and assured them of her support at every level socially, emotionally and administratively.

The Trinamool Congress MP said she had spoken to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari regarding the case and was assured that the state government is fully committed to identifying the culprits, ensuring their arrest and securing speedy justice. She noted that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to expedite the probe and thanked the Chief Minister for taking swift and necessary action.

Ghosh further said that, as the local MP, she remains in constant touch with the administration to ensure that the investigation proceeds in the right direction and is completed without delay.

Referring to the death of a man who was allegedly beaten by an angry mob following the minor's death, Ghosh strongly condemned the incident of mob lynching. She appealed to people not to take the law into their own hands under any circumstances.

She also urged the victim's family and local residents to maintain peace, cooperate with the police investigation and repose faith in the administration to ensure justice.

The alleged rape and murder of the minor has triggered widespread outrage across West Bengal. Police conducted overnight raids in connection with the case, detaining three suspects and arresting two accused. A six-member SIT, headed by an Additional Superintendent of Police, has been formed to investigate the case.
