(HS): The proceedings in Maharashtra Legislature was adjourned on Monday as the
Meteorological department has forest had forecast 70 to 90 km wind speed in the
afternoon. Mumbai region is already facing problems due to very heavy rains and
landslide on Mumbai-Pune route and Mumbai-Goa route.
Twelve deaths
have been reported in two days in Mumbai one in open manhole and tree falling.
The Opposition demanded action against the erring officials.
Chief Minister
Devendra Fadnavis said that every year about 800 tree fall. But this year 350
tree uprooted in a single day. The prediction of strong wind has made the
situation even more serious. He has appealed to the people not to remain
confined to their homes and opt for work from home. .
In Manukhurd
suburb building collapse, Fadnavis said that the building was illegally
constructed. Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan personally visited the site at
1 am on Monday. Further enquiry into the accident has been initiated.
The Disaster
Management Team is taking care of the landslides on Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The
traffic has been diverted from the missing link and vehicles trapped are being
rescued. The work is being carried out on war footing. He assured that a
detailed statement wioll be made in the House on Tuesday.
Fadnavis has
appealed to the people not to venture into the tourist spots due to the heavy
rains and strong wind current.
Speaker Rahul
Narvekar adjourned the House for the day after Fadnavi’s statement and appealed
to the members to be alert and cooperate with the government machinery.
Earlier the
Opposition members staged demonstrations in front of the Vidhan Bhavan
protecting death in Mumbai due to heavy rains and inaction on the part of the
government.
