Jammu, July 6 (HS): A 42-year-old Amarnath pilgrim from Uttar Pradesh died after allegedly being bitten by a snake at the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas base camp in Jammu, officials said on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Amit Kumar, reportedly suffered the snakebite at the base camp on Saturday evening and was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital for treatment.

Officials said his condition deteriorated during treatment, and he later succumbed.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and legal formalities are underway.

Authorities said necessary steps are being taken to strengthen safety measures at the base camp to prevent similar incidents.
