Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay
Lucknow, 06 July (HS): A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief
Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence, 5-Kalidas Marg, Lucknow, on
Monday approved several important proposals related to the Higher Education
Department. Among them was the proposal to establish three new private-sector
universities, which will enhance both the reach and quality of higher education
in the state.
In a press conference held at the Lok Bhavan media center,
State Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay stated that the cabinet had
passed a proposal to issue Letters of Intent (LOPs) and Operating
Authorizations to three institutions after evaluation under the Uttar Pradesh
Private University Act, 2019. He said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's
goal is to ensure that higher education reaches the lowest rung of the ladder,
and the government is working in that direction.
The sponsoring organization, Swami Brahmanand Saraswati
Charitable Trust, Delhi, will establish this university on 51,739 acres of land
in Gadanpur Aahar village, Bilhaur tehsil, Kanpur Nagar. This agriculture-based
university will provide a new direction for agricultural education and research
in the state. The Uttar Pradesh Private University (Fourth Amendment)
Ordinance, 2026, will be promulgated for this purpose.
Run by the sponsoring organization, the Indian Institute of
Management and Engineering Society, Ghaziabad, this university will be built on
26.2656 acres of land in Dasna village, within the Ghaziabad Development
Authority area. The institution already operates medical and engineering
colleges. This university will now offer new opportunities for higher education
in Ghaziabad. The Uttar Pradesh Private Universities (Third Amendment)
Ordinance, 2026, will be promulgated.
The sponsoring institution, Anglo Sanskrit College,
Fatehpur, will establish this university on 20.45 acres of land in the town of
Fatehpur Dakshin, Fatehpur tehsil. More than 20 acres of land is available, as
per urban area standards. The Uttar Pradesh Private Universities (Fifth
Amendment) Ordinance, 2026, will be promulgated for this purpose.
Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyaya stated that
during the Yogi government's tenure, higher education has made significant
strides in both quality and expansion. From the British era until 2017, Uttar
Pradesh had only 14 government universities. Eight new government universities
have been established since 2017. Similarly, until 2017, there were only 27
private universities, which will now increase to 56. All three proposed
universities meet all standards. Their opening will provide quality higher
education, research, and employment-oriented courses to youth within the state.
