Digha, 28 July (H.S.): Continuous rainfall and strong winds triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal have dampened tourism activities along the East Midnapore coast. Since Tuesday morning, rough sea conditions have forced tourists to remain indoors at hotels in popular seaside destinations, including Digha, Shankarpur, Mandarmani and Tajpur.

According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, the low-pressure system has brought persistent rainfall to the region. High tide has pushed seawater further inland than usual, making visits to the beach and sea bathing hazardous.

The local administration has advised tourists to avoid gathering near the shoreline and to maintain a safe distance from the sea in view of the prevailing weather conditions.

The adverse weather has disrupted several tourist activities, including sea bathing, beach walks, and viewing the sunrise and sunset. Most visitors have been compelled to spend the day inside their hotel rooms.

The weather department, however, has indicated that conditions are likely to improve from Wednesday. With the low-pressure system expected to weaken, rainfall intensity is forecast to decrease gradually, leading to an improvement in conditions along the coast and a likely resumption of normal tourism activities later in the week.
