Mumbai, 28 July (HS): An alert of heavy to very

heavy rains has been forecast in 22 districts of Maharashtra due to climatic changes

over Arabian Sea. The Disaster Management teams have been alerted.

According to the Weather Department, Orange alert

has been issued for Ratnagiri and Yellow alert for Mumbai. Heavy rains are

predicted due to cyclonic wind over Arabian Sea, near coastal Konkan. The wind

speed in the region could be around 30 kmph to 50 kmph and Coastal Konkan

region is expected to receive heavy rains for the next four days. The fishermen

have been advised not to enter sea during the period. Since June about 50

percent of rains have been recorded.

NAGPUR: On Tuesday morning heavy rains slashed the

city. Many low-lying areas have been inundated. In some areas school children

were rescued using ropes to prevent them from being flown away. The school buses

also faced difficulties in dropping the students at home. The anxious parents had

to wait for two to three hours and frequently calling the bus drivers and

school authorities for safety of their wards.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis convened a meeting

to review the situation in various regions.
