Faridkot, 24 July (H.S.): Two women, who were related as sisters-in-law, were killed after a speeding Swift car hit their Activa near Jahaz Ground in Faridkot on Friday morning.The deceased were identified as Sanjana, 43, and Pooja, 49, residents of Shaheed Balwinder Singh Nagar. They had gone to collect drinking water from a tubewell located near a canal, around 300 metres from their house, and were returning home when the accident occurred.According to eyewitnesses, the car was allegedly travelling at a speed of nearly 100 kmph when it hit the scooter. The impact was so severe that the car reportedly dragged the women and their Activa for a considerable distance. Both women suffered critical head injuries.They were rushed to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, but doctors declared them dead on arrival.The car driver fled the spot immediately after the accident. Police reached the site after receiving information, took both vehicles into custody and sent the bodies to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.Relatives said that the two women regularly used the same route to fetch drinking water. They alleged that the car was being driven at an excessively high speed and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and strict legal action against him.DSP Tarlochan Singh said a case had been registered against the driver, identified as Ravinder Singh, a resident of Pindi Balocha village. Preliminary investigation indicated that the speeding car hit the Activa from behind and dragged the victims for some distance. The police have launched a search to arrest the accused and further investigation into the accident is underway.
