New Delhi, 23 July (H.S.): Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other leaders on Thursday paid tributes to freedom fighters Chandrashekhar Azad and Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak on the occasion of their birth anniversaries.

In a post on X, Vice President Radhakrishnan paid homage to Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, describing him as one of the foremost leaders of India's freedom movement. He said Tilak was a visionary statesman, an eminent scholar and a fearless nationalist who awakened the spirit of self-rule through his immortal declaration, Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it. He added that Tilak's leadership, writings and unwavering dedication to the nation continue to inspire generations to strive for freedom and strengthen national consciousness.

Paying tribute to Chandrashekhar Azad, the Vice President said the legendary revolutionary remains a shining symbol of India's freedom struggle who exemplified extraordinary courage and unwavering devotion to the nation. He said Azad's life inspired countless young Indians to dedicate themselves to the service of the motherland, and that his enduring legacy would continue to kindle the spirit of patriotism for generations to come.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also paid homage to Chandrashekhar Azad, calling him a great patriot and freedom fighter. He said Azad's entire life, dedicated to the service of the nation, would remain a lasting source of inspiration.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Chandrashekhar Azad inspired innumerable young Indians to devote themselves to the nation, adding that his determination would continue to inspire every generation. The Prime Minister also paid tribute to Lokmanya Tilak, describing him as one of the towering figures of India's freedom movement who ignited the spirit of nationalism and inspired future generations to dedicate themselves to public service.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Chandrashekhar Azad dedicated everything he had to the nation and made India's freedom the sole mission of his life. Referring to the Kakori Train Action, Shah said Azad sent a strong message to British rule that the country's resources belonged only to its citizens. He added that Azad nurtured a generation of revolutionaries who shook the foundations of colonial rule and said that even today, reading about his heroism fills him with a deep sense of patriotism.
