Humayun Kabir going to Rejinagar Police Station

Murshidabad, 14 July (H.S.): Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir appeared before Rejinagar Police Station on Tuesday in connection with a case over his alleged provocative remarks, even as Shaktipur Police served him with a fresh notice at his residence directing him to appear before the police on July 19 in a separate case.

Kabir reached Rejinagar Police Station around 11:30 a.m. along with party workers and supporters, as per the scheduled appearance. At the same time, a team from Shaktipur Police visited his residence at Manikyahar and delivered a notice after family members accepted it.

Two separate FIRs have been registered against the Nowda MLA over controversial speeches.

In one case, the police alleged that during a public meeting at Kashipur Hattala in Rejinagar on June 26, Kabir made inflammatory remarks while warning the BJP. In another case registered at Shaktipur Police Station, he is accused of making defamatory and provocative statements against the administration during a victory rally near Garduar Ghat.

Kabir's remarks had drawn sharp criticism from Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who, while referring to the comments in the Assembly, urged him to exercise restraint.

Earlier, Kabir skipped his scheduled appearance before Shaktipur Police on July 3 but appeared before Rejinagar Police on July 4, when he was questioned for nearly four hours. Following that interrogation, Rejinagar Police issued another notice directing him to appear again on July 15.

Before entering the police station on Tuesday, Kabir criticised the police action. Meanwhile, Shaktipur Police issued the fresh notice requiring him to appear on July 19 after he failed to comply with the earlier summons. The investigation into both cases is continuing.
