Guwahati, 14 July (HS): The BJP Assam Pradesh on Tuesday said the 2026–27 State Budget lays the foundation for transforming Assam into one of India's leading higher education hubs, with plans to establish a university, medical college, engineering college and IIT-level institution in every district over the next five years.

In a statement, BJP State Media Panelist Dharmakanta Gogoi said the vision reflects Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma's commitment to strengthening higher education and creating world-class academic infrastructure. He highlighted that the Budget proposes four new medical colleges, major funding for state universities, financial support for autonomous colleges and 33,240 new healthcare posts. Gogoi also noted that the first MBA batch at IIM Guwahati will begin in August 2026, describing the initiatives as a major step towards making Assam a national centre for education and skilled workforce development.------------
